A comfortable
home for most is one place where even God doesn’t trouble you. Or
so it would seem!
This is the story
of one sorry salesman Larry whose lived in a ‘well-lived’ house
in New Jersey. It HAD to be, after all it came to him from his father
who himself got it from his father and it seemed to go on as long as
the lineage continued. From father to son (strangely no daughters!)
the house came down the order as an heirloom. And as with most
heirlooms, the last thing anyone cared for was the heirloom itself.
It gave shelter, peace, warmth. And that was about it. What went on
behind the wooden façade, the old flooring and the walls was
no-one’s concern. Worse, what went on in the name of plumbing
repairs, nobody cared for. Hell, they couldn’t possibly have even
spelt “24-hour emergency plumbing service” if it came to that.
Why bother with something which (apparently) seemed to be as strong
as the mountains, and the heirloom of a house seemed just that?!
Larry, the 6th
generation in the line of lineage got it in a condition which was
anything but good. But he couldn’t care a damn! He was a
vacuum-cleaner salesman to whom his daily sales figures were way too
important when compared to caring for plumbing services and that too
24 hours emergency plumbing services when according to him, what
cannot be seen, never exists.
But then, destiny
had other plans to make Larry understand the value of timely repairs
and the role 24-hour emergency plumbing services play in making life
easy for every
one. One day he came home after a long day of going
door to door haggling and having doors slammed shut in his face. New
Jersey’s cold, cold breeze wasn’t helping either. With things as
they were, he thought it fit to shut shop and head home to a warm
bath and some brandy (with warm water of course!). Reaching home
Larry just threw whatever he was carrying (including a week-old
hamburger inside him!) and relaxed. Changing into a towel, he headed
for the bath. In his mind, he was already in the tub, warm water
enveloping all of him and his distorted, feverish senses.
Filling the tub
to the brim, he added his favourite bubble bath for the right smell
and effect. Thinking everything was in place, he did the inevitable
when one is so unwell, go backwards into the tub.
Mistakes happen
ONLY with humans. And sometimes end up giving a shock of a lifetime.
Something similar took place in the space of 3 milli-seconds with
Larry. At the same speed that he hit the tub, he was out with the
cold, cold water having shocked and stunned his senses. He was numb a
while back. Now he was completely in his senses. And looked dumb,
confused & confounded. And all because his precious heirloom of a
home had problems with its boiler which Larry all but forgot till
now. What he had thought (or shall we say, taken for granted) to be
warm water like the embrace of a loved one, almost turned into an
ice-cold grave. Lucky his heart didn’t stop. And neither his legs
give way courtesy all the walking he had to endure going door to
door.
In a space of a
few minutes, Larry was out of the bath and into his bed, phone in
hand calling an emergency 24-hour emergency plumbing service. They
came, they say and they declared. Apparently, his home hardly had
anything which could carry water from the boiler to the tap and all
this called for a major overhaul.
Larry is back to
his work. Going door to door with doors still being slammed into his
face. But there’s a new realization at the back of his mind. That
what cannot be seen can sometimes bring about a mess you don’t want
to see and that the best way to go about it is to look for trouble
where no one otherwise looks. Like for example, in the insides of a
drain!
Moral of the story: If you don’t
want to go Larry’s way, its time to call in the experts, the
24-hour emergency plumbing services who will tell you exactly what is
happening (or otherwise) with your plumbing and sewer lines! Else,
things can go cold, very, very cold!
